Salamatu Hussaini Suleiman
Salamatu Hussaini Suleiman is the immediate past ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security. Prior to this position, served as Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development in 2008 under the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan.
Salamatu Hussaini Suleiman, a Lawyer by profession, was born in Argungu, a fishing community in Kebbi State of Nigeria. She had her secondary education at the prestigious Queens College, Lagos before proceeding to Ahmadu Bello University Zaria where she obtained a degree in Law. She later obtained a master’s degree in Law from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Salamatu has had a fulfilling career in public service and the development sector working variously with the Ministry of Justice in the old Sokoto State, Continental Merchant Bank, Lagos, NAL Merchant Bank and the Aluminum Smelter Company, where she was company secretary/legal adviser. She also had a stint at the Securities and Exchange Commission before being appointed Minister.
Salamatu is currently on the Board of Stanbic IBTC Holdings, Nigeria as an Independent Non-Executive Director.
